NDIS provider Jesmond

Jesmond is the next suburb over from our Wallsend base, so NDIS Jesmond shifts are some of the shortest drives on our roster. We help adults with disability at home, at the shops on Blue Gum Road and out around the suburb, from 6am to 10pm every day.

Support in Jesmond

A suburb full of students and older neighbours needs support workers who can switch from a lecture timetable to a slow Sunday without missing a beat.

Jesmond sits on a busy junction where the east-west roads meet the roads heading north, and the Jesmond roundabout is the landmark most locals give directions by. The commercial centre is on Blue Gum Road, where a large shopping centre has Woolworths and Big W plus more than sixty specialty shops and parking for over 900 cars.

The University of Newcastle is in neighbouring Callaghan, so many residents are students, including a lot of international students, and the suburb is very multicultural. Jesmond also has several aged housing complexes.

Jesmond Park borders bushland on its southern side, has a rose garden, and is home to Jesmond Football Club, the Rams, founded in 1928. Heaton Park has a concrete skate bowl.

Glenrock Support is a registered NDIS provider a short drive from Jesmond, and we have been working in this part of Newcastle since 2016. NDIS Jesmond support with us means a small team of two or three regular workers who learn your routine and stay with you.

What NDIS Jesmond support covers with us

Most of what we do sits in the Core supports budget. At home, that is help with personal care and daily living: showering, dressing, meals and getting the day started. Out of the house, it is getting out in the community: the shops, the park, a class or a game.

We don't provide support coordination, plan management, therapy or overnight shifts. If you need those, we tell you who does.

Starting NDIS support in Jesmond

Every Jesmond start begins with a free meet-and-greet at your place or a cafe nearby. You get a written quote and a service agreement before anything begins, and you can read what an NDIS service agreement covers first. Our other Newcastle suburbs are on the NDIS Newcastle page.

What support looks like around Jesmond

  • Students and young adults near the university

Help getting ready on campus days, cooking, washing and a weekly shop, fitted around classes rather than a fixed nine to five.

  • Aged housing units around the town centre

Personal care and household tasks for NDIS participants living in seniors' complexes, close enough to Blue Gum Road to go shopping together on foot or by wheelchair.

  • Family homes on the bush edge

Support in the quieter streets towards Jesmond Park, where an adult with disability lives with parents who want a reliable break.

The same two workers every week, and they rang ahead the one time someone was sick. Small thing, but it matters to Dad.

I study at the University of Newcastle. Can a support worker help on my uni days?

Yes. A support worker can help you get ready in the morning, cook, keep your room or unit in order, and travel with you to Callaghan. Supports inside your classes, such as note-taking or exam arrangements, are usually set up through the university's own disability service rather than your NDIS plan. We are happy to work alongside them.

Can someone help me with the weekly shop at Jesmond?

Yes. Your support worker can write the list with you, get you to the shopping centre on Blue Gum Road, and help you find things, pay and carry the bags home.

I live in a seniors' complex in Jesmond and I'm over 65. Can you still support me?

If you joined the NDIS before you turned 65, you can stay in the scheme after your birthday, and we can keep supporting you. People who are 65 or older when they first apply usually go to aged care services instead. If you are unsure which applies to you, ask the NDIA or your support coordinator.

Can my support worker come with me to watch the Rams at Jesmond Park?

Yes. Going to a local game is a good use of assistance with social and community participation. After that, it is your Saturday and you set the pace.

Is Jesmond in the City of Newcastle or Lake Macquarie?

Jesmond is in the City of Newcastle. That means council services such as the free MLAK key and the city's Disability Inclusion Action Plan apply to you. Your NDIS supports work the same way whichever council area you live in.

How quickly could a support worker get to Jesmond if plans change?

Usually quickly, because Jesmond is about five minutes from our Wallsend base. That makes it easier for us to shift a visit earlier or later on the day when an appointment moves. We still confirm every change with you first.
